Instead of using rubber stamps to create pattern, look about your house and discover a whole collection of things that are suitable for making impressions in FP. All sorts of metal tools and implements such as screws, nuts and bolts, potato mashers, sewing machine bobbin case, jewellery, buttons, ornaments, chains etc. Then take a look at all those non metallic things such as glass and ceramics, textiles and fibres, and natural found items such as wood, leaves, shells etc. You will have an endless supply of things to experiment with.
For this technique we will use a piece of thick cotton lace or doily to create a beautiful impression.
What You Will Need
Wet heat (see wet heat)
Thick lace either cotton or synthetic, an old doily will do.
A piece of FP whatever size and colour takes your fancy.
Cold water
Aluminium foil
Rolling pin (old bit of central heating pipe will do)
Soak the lace in cold water and squeeze out any excess.
Heat the FP on the foil in hot water until soft
Place the lace on top of the tin foil and roll it in with the rolling pin
If the lace cannot be easily removed, allow the FP to cool in cold water or on the side and then remove the lace.
Dry the FP and rub some colour (Rub n Buff etc) over the surface to enhance the texture and pattern.
Trim if you want to and use:
- On a card,
- Embed in another piece of plastic,
- Cut it up and join it to plain un-textured FP
- Turn it into a brooch
