Ooozey Does It Pendant
Ingredients:
FP Swirl
Beads with hole large enough for ribbon
Narrow ribbon
Sequin waste
Oval sugarcraft cutter 4cm (1 ½inch long)
Strong aluminium foil 8cm sq (3” sq)
Method
1. Cut two pieces of Swirl a little bit bigger than the oval cutter and place one piece on top of aluminium foil on the work surface colour side up. Heat with dry heat until soft. Check the plastic is hot enough with the Bend Test.- bend it over your finger, and if it bends smoothly and easily it is pliable and ready to work.
3. Carefully place the sequin waste on top of the plastic then position the cutter on top and push down firmly.
4. Pick up the foil and push down on the cutter with your thumbs (without touching the plastic) at the same time as pushing up from underneath with your fingers to force the warm plastic through the holes in the sequin waste. NB if you have overheated the plastic it can be rather hot to touch so take care.
5. The plastic should ooze through the holes to create a lovely beaded effect. When you have achieved the result you want, replace on the work surface and press down on the cutter. Put everything including the cutter into cold water to harden.
7. When cool, remove the cutter and repeat the process to create another identical motif. Trim off the excess around the cutter marks.
8. Measure the length of the ribbon around your neck (allow room to go over your head), and tie a large knot in one end. Trim off excess ribbon close to the knot (seal with a dab of glue if desired).
9. Thread on the beads and tie another large knot at the other end. Position the beads at either end of the ribbon.
10. Knot both ends of the ribbon together so that the knot sits where the motif is to go, and the two beaded ends dangle a little way below the knot.
11. Heat scraps of Friendly Plastic either in hot water or on Teflon sheet with dry heat until soft, then wrap around the knot on the ribbon cord.
12. Place both motifs side by side insides facing upwards on a piece of Teflon sheet, and heat BRIEFLY until just the edges are just glossy, but not soft ( 3 or 4 seconds).
13. Position the plastic wrapped knot on the ribbon into one of the motifs and place the other on top, gently squeezing around the edges to confirm the bond between the two halves.
Variations:
· Add Friendly Plastic beads instead of bought beads
· Trim the joint between the two halves with a narrow strip of Friendly Plastic heated in water
· Place a layer of tuille or net under the sequin waste when Ooozing, it gives a double beaded effect
· Oooze through scraps of lace, paper cut outs, Peel Offs, wire mesh, ladder yarn, indeed anything with holes in.
